Comin' Back Around

Dammit, baby stuff is too freakin' cute!

The first holifo (holiday FO) write-up is a quickie, and a threefer! All are based on the ghosts of FOs past, but with some modifications.

Up top we have two gifts for my best friend's baby boy, who is coming up on just two itty bitty months old. First are a pair of Ugg baby booties. Several months ago, I knitted up a pair for a co-worker and followed the DIY pattern as written. But now that I'm older and wiser (and have since plunged deep into the depths of sock obsession), that seam running along the sole and back really bother me. So I finagled these up in a seamless fashion, using this as a starting point but making several mods along the way. Much better!

I did experience one heartbreaking moment while knitting these, however. I'd moved all of the sole stitches onto two dpns to start the kitchener, got up to reach for my tapestry needle, put my knee on the couch and heard a muffled "crack!" No, that wasn't the voices in my head telling me what I was on, it was in fact the sound that strikes fear and doom into the heart of all knitters - yes, I'd snapped one of my beloved Holz & Stein dpns in two. Noooooooooo! I kicked my own ass, apologized to the needle for killing it, then put it away because I couldn't bring myself to toss it. Maybe if I leave it in my needle box long enough, it'll heal itself. DPNs do that, right?

With the Uggs is an itty bitty version of the Ribby Hubster Hat. Same yarn, same pattern, just sized down and with some added length so it can be folded above or below his teeny ears and anywhere in between. Who says baby hats have to be pastel? Punk rock baby, yeah!

The third holifo is below (hey, that rhymes!), a hat for Hubster's sis, who is currently living in Seattle. This too was another version of the Ribby Hubster Hat (what can I say, it's easy and I don't have to worry about fit and stuff), minus a few stitches and plus 10 extra rows to give it a fold-up brim. I dig those little random variations in the dye, too, it's subtlely cool.

All three of these were quick and easy one-nighters (hmmm, why does that remind me of college...). A very welcome, much-needed change after the other two I'll be writing up shortly, one of which almost killed me.

Ugg I'm a Boy...I like the first part of that name. BIL is about to spawn and make his contribution to the gene pool...I might have to make his offspring a pair of those!
