Paint the fence
Have you ever knit a Clapotis? Then you'll remember how it takes forever to drop the stitches. But at least with that one, you can drop them as you go, so it's not as time consuming when you're done.
Well, Clappy, meet your maker. The Tatami Kimono.
Whoooooole fence.
You know that "paint the fence" scene in The Karate Kid, where Daniel-san paints one little section and thinks he's all done, then Miyagi waves his hand around his backyard and shows him there's a billion more miles to go?
Feels exactly like that.
I've found, however, that it helps to drop the stitches on the wrong side, rather than the right side. Just slide a darning needle underneath the stitch, like so:
Then - and this is very important - pull the needle UP, towards the top of the garment. (Not forward, towards you.)
And make sure you have something really interesting on the TV. Planet Earth is a good one - that way, you can look down during the really icky parts, like when sharks and alligators...um...find their lunch, or a freakin' 6-foot salamander comes on the screen and freaks you the hell out.

I think you maybe need to hand that off to your husband. Mine loves ripping things out. Male thing?
And think how pretty that fence will look when you are all done painting it?!!
Crazy! I've never seen that pattern!
is there something special about this that you can't just pull a bit sideways and have the whole column run like you never want other knitted things to do, tho they seem awfully happy to do it, given the chance?
Oooh interesting!
Wax on!
I'm guessing your yarn isn't so cooperative when it comes to dropping out the stitches and that's why you have to do it by hand? Sorry 'bout that. I'm excited to see this when it's done, though!
Oh Lord...
Wax off!
And note to self - if I ever decide to make this, choose something with lots of rayon in it.
Just think how nice it will be when its done!
I know, I know. But at least you didn't have to make 2 of them :) Your on the home stretch though and it seams up quick!
